## Frequently asked questions

### Is ControllerTests free and safe to use?

Yes. Every test is free, needs no account and no download. The tests run entirely in your browser: key presses, clicks, controller input and audio never leave your device.

### Which browsers work best?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all work. Chrome and Edge expose the most controller features (including vibration), and Chromium browsers give the most precise mouse polling-rate readings.

### Do I need a controller to try the controller tester?

No. The [controller tester](https://controllertests.com/controller-test/) includes a virtual controller you can drive with your mouse, touchscreen or keyboard, so you can see exactly how every readout behaves before you plug in real hardware.

### Can a website really detect stick drift or keyboard chattering?

Yes. Browsers expose the raw stick axes through the Gamepad API and every key and mouse event with millisecond timestamps. ControllerTests measures those values directly, the same data a game receives, and explains what the numbers mean.
